The highlights of this hike include stunning views from the summit and animal sightings along the route. Challenges are steep climbs and limited shade. Bring plenty of water and start early to avoid crowds.

Wear long trousers and long sleeve for hike as there are many plants on the way down. Come on a weekday to avoid crowds. No plastic bottles allowed up. Please bring your trash down with you. The ascent is steep nearing the rim, and again near the peak on the edge of the rim. The soil is sandy and can be slippery. It is worth hiring a guide (can be done at the entrance) if you can, because the trails flood and are rerouted pretty often. A guide will also be able to take you into the crater, which is dangerous on your own. They will also be able to take you out through the gorge, which sometimes has animals to view.
